St Brendan’s Basketball Club Notes 29/10/2012
Ladies Div2
The ladies played their first KABB league game away to Ballybunion Wildcats Team 1 on the 22nd of October. Ballybunion races into a 6pt lead at the end of the first quarter and by the end of the second they were 17pts ahead. We managed to close the gap in the 3rd quarter to end up just 8pts down at this stage. We went out in the 4th and gave it everything, there were some great baskets from Elaine, Karen and Charlotte to bring the score at the final whistle to 52-53, Brendan’s taking the points. Well done ladies on your first win and a great start to the season.

Brendan’s Annual Tournament Div1 Men and Div2 Ladies
Teams travelled from Dublin, Cork and Kerry to play in our tournament last weekend. Brendan’s Men kicked the tournament off winning the first game against Cougars by 2pts and Brendan’s Ladies winning the second game against Brandon Bay by 4pts. Games continued through-out the day on Saturday, Vixens and Pegasus were the other 2 teams in the Ladies group and Midleton BC and Cork Celts in the Mens. All teams played each other to determin the order of the semi Finals:
On Sunday the first semi was Brandon Bay Vs Vixens (Score – 27 to 12) Brandon Bay progressing to the final. The first mens Semi was Brendan’s Vs Midleton BC (Score – 29 – 21) Brendan’s winning there with all players contributing evenly to the score and the win. Semi Final 3 was the Brendan’s Ladies Vs Pegasus (Score – 15 – 12) Charlotte Higgins scoring 9 of the 15 pts in this game, with Emma Leen and Katlyn O’Sullivan geting 3each. The 4th semi was Cougars Vs Cork Celts (Score – 35 – 28) Cougars going through to the Final.
Ladies Final, Brendan’s Vs Brandon Bay, Brendan’s worked hard in the first 2 quarters and had a lead of 20 to 9 going into the 3rd quarter. Brendan’s went on a scoring spree with little reply from Brendon Bay in the last 2 quarters leaving the Final score at 43 – 18 to Brendan’s. Team and Scorers: KO’Sullivan(15), LGriffin(5), GKerins(5), CHiggins(5), SPrendergast(4), ELeen(3), CRoche(2), LHarris(2), EBaily(2), JWalsh, Kelsey O’Sullivan and coach Charles O’Sullivan. Ladies MVP went to Katlyn O’Sullivan from St. Brendan’s.
Mens Final, Brendan’s Vs Cougars, After the first quarter Brendan’s were ahead by 3pts in the second both teams scored 10 a piect to leave Brendan’s still 3 ahead going into the 3rd. In the 3rd Brendan’s powered ahead and scored 14pts where Cougars could only manage 3pts, this left the score at 26 -41 to Brendan’s. Cougars had alot to do to make up the score and tried hard but Brendan’s went score for score with Cougars and at the final whistle it was 57 – 38 to Brendan’s. U18 Boys
Our U18s played Ballincollig in the Cork League at home on the bank holiday Monday, Brendan’s stayed with Ballincollig for the first quarter and only trailed by 4 going into the second. Ballincollig then hit another gear and with their accurate out side shooting combined with unstoppable inside players, they pushed ahead in the next 3 quarters, the final score 53 – 82, Tommy Sheehy top scoring for Brendan’s with 21pts. Team and Scorers: TSheehy(21), CO’Sullivan(2), DWalsh(2), NRoche(13), RBarry, MPrenderville(2), BO’Brien, DCostello, MO’Donnell(11), RWilliams(2), TNickleson, MO’Leary. Coach FO’Sullivan.
Div1 Men
Our Div1 Men PLayed Ballincollig after the U18 game on the bank holiday, from early on Brendan’s took control of the game, with Michael Quirke and Kieran Donoghy hooking up to score some great baskets between them. It was a great team performance with players constantly subbing in and out, and all players contributing well when brought into the game. Brendan’s went out winners at the final whistle, with the score at 63 – 40.
